Meet your teacher:
Anouk Lenaerts (ah-nuke len-arts)
Anouk, originally from Liège, Belgium, moved with her family to Norman, Oklahoma in 1996 where she began dancing at the age of four. She received her early training from Marjorie Kovich at the Norman Ballet school, where she was able to perform in her very first role, a mouse in The Oklahoma Nutcracker with the Norman Ballet Company. She went on to train at Oklahoma City Ballet, formerly Ballet Oklahoma under the direction of Bryan Pitts. Anouk spent summers at ballet intensives including Tulsa Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, Joffrey SF, ODC summer workshop, and The Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain, where she danced in one of her favorite ballets, Les Sylphides.
Anouk obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance Performance and Choreography from San Francisco State University. During this time she taught youth ballet and also received her yoga teaching certification from Yoga Works (formerly Yoga Tree SF). She also attended National Holistic Institute in San Francisco and became licensed as a massage therapist. For almost six years after her undergraduate studies, Anouk directed her passions away from dance and towards healing the body and mind, and spirit without the pressures of performance. In 2023, she was led back to her love of dance and began training again, with a renewed sense of passion and drive. Anouk is passionate about sharing this love for movement and artistry, as well as empowering the self through a commitment to our body’s health and self expression. A love for teaching and experience in holding space for people to come as they are allows Anouk to connect to students with inspiration and patience. She believes in hard work and lots of play, goal setting and the joy of experiencing growth. She continues to train as a dancer and is now offering private lessons to interested individuals and small groups in the Los Angeles/Orange County area. She is working towards obtaining an MFA in dance and looks forward to what the future holds.
